IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHT FROM THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON SUNDAY 15TH MAY, 2022
APPRECIAITION: The PPC, led by the Parish Priest Rev Fr John Sixtus Okonkwo and his Assistant, Rev Fr Boniface Neibo appreciate all our Parishioners for their exceptional commitment and dedication towards the development of the Parish, spiritually and otherwise. May God continue to bless and reward each one of us through Christ our Lord, amen.
2022 HARVEST COMMITTEE: Haven appreciated the 2021 Harvest Committee for job weldone, the 2022 Harvest committee has been constituted and will be inaugurated very soon. The entire Parishioners are encouraged to give them the usual maximum support.
SUPPORT FOR ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH DOGONGADA: Bro. Ume-Ezeoke Victor has been appointed to work with the Parish Priest to continue the discussion with the Priest in charge of DOGONGADA on how we can be of help in acquisition of an authentic land.
APARTMENT FOR THE CATECHIST: Renovation work in the house beside the public convenience has been completed and the house has been blessed, ready for use.
PROJECT COMMITTEE: The Fabrication of the roof trusses is ongoing and they will soon start lifting and installation. All are to take caution as we come around the church within the week.
FINANCE COMMITTEE: The 2022 Budget proposal has been submitted to the Archdiocese, defended and approved. We have also started the implementation.
Project Sunday activities has started; we thank all the Parishioners for their contributions so far. Next Project Sunday is scheduled for Sunday 29th of May 2022. Members of the Finance Committee henceforth will be visible inside the Church during announcement with identification apron to facilitate pledge redemption & also at designated canopies outside the Church. You can do cash, transfer or POS.
Parishioners who are not sure of their financial standing or debt records from previous project Sundays and Harvest activities are encouraged to meet members of the Finance Committee every Sunday or the Parish Secretary and Catechist for redemption, reconciliation and receipt.
Organizations, Societies and Associations yet to submit their financial report to the Parish, are requested to submit their reports immediately before the end of May 2022. The next round of Report review shall be from January to June 2022.
The next Parish Finance Seminar is scheduled for Saturday 16th of July. It is open for all parishioners, though it is compulsory for all the leaders of various groups in the Church.
Parishioners are encouraged to donate landed property for expansion of our parish community through BCC Centers and building materials for completion of our Church project.
PASTORAL AND NEW EVANGELIZATION COMMITTEE: Synod on Synodality took place on Saturday, 26th February, 2022 and was attended by Parishioners. Bro. M C Amadi is now appointed the Chairman of the Pastoral and New Evangelization Committee.
2022 National Eucharistic Congress will take place in Benin City, Edo State from 7th-13th November, 2022. Churches have been mandated to say the Eucharistic Congress Prayer during Mass throughout the period. The Eucharist Congress will take place at our Parish on 18th June while that of the Archdiocese will hold on 19th June.
LITURGICAL COMMITTEE: The Liturgical Committee is now to be headed by the Catechist- Okafor Joseph. All the service societies are to send two representatives to the Committee.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE: The Committee in collaboration with JDPC and Health/Family life Committees is planning a very important Seminar for all Parishioners on the topic: “CHILD PROTECTION FROM ABUSE”. This event has been approved to take place on Saturday 25th of June, 2022.
JDPC: successfully completed this year’s LENTEN Campaign. 80% of the proceed is sent to the Archdiocese while 20% will be retained by the parish for local charity. Our Parish JDPC are available every Sunday to attend to Parishioners who have issues of conflict, justice and peace.
SECURITY COMMITTEE: A Security Company has been employed by the Parish.
CATECHIST WEDDING: Our Parish Catechist will be wedding on 4th of June by 10am. Parishioners are encouraged to support him individually as he plans for his wedding.
LACK OF SEATS IN THE CHURCH: Parishioners are encouraged to use seats for thanksgiving as the Church is in need of seats now.
LAITY COUNCIL: In order to have a very active Laity Council once again, the PPC directed that there should be a new election for the Laity Council due to the ill health of the chairman.
