HIGHLIGHT OF PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL (PPC) MEETING HELD ON Saturday 9TH JULY, 2022
2022 HARVEST COMMITTEE UPDATE/REPORT: The 2022 Harvest Committee program of activities have started. This year’s harvest program of activities would feature: Harvest theme selection, Unveiling of theme, Seed planting, Family and society thanksgiving, Production/ Unveiling & Sales of Brochure, Production/ Distribution of Retrieval of Harvest Envelopes, Retreat. And the Grand finale which is scheduled to 13th of November 2022. We shall still maintain every last Sunday of the month for our Parish Project Sunday. All Parishioners are encouraged to support this annual project.
SUPPORT FOR ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH DOGONGADA: Our Parish is still in touch with St. Peter’s Dogongada as they search for an authentic land.
SECURITY COMMITTEE: The security Personnel and volunteers have been undergoing series of training in order to improve on their security strategies in the Parish. The Security Committee has been at its best to see that Parishioners/ properties are protected while in the Church. To this effect; walkie-talkie and other gadgets have been acquired to ease communication among security personnel. Parishioners are highly encouraged to continue to comply with the parking protocol already in place. The Church has made plans to ensure that the grasses at the parking lots are regularly cleared to encourage compliance. And the need for orderliness in the parking lots is emphasized. Parishioners are urged to be more vigilant and cooperate with Security Personnel assigned to carry out their tasks by obeying their directives.
FINANCE COMMITTEE: The Parish six months financial report (January to June 2022) was reviewed and adopted. Project Sunday performance for March, May & June 2022 was reviewed and the summary shows total Cash of N625,000, bank transfers/POS payment of N8,140,293 while the outstanding pledges shows the sum of N8,437,107 making a total of N17,202,400 as at end of June. Work is ongoing and we appeal to those with outstanding balances to honour their commitments and redeem their pledges. A designated bank account would be provided for the 2022 Harvest Activities. Parish Finance seminar for 2022 initially scheduled for Saturday 16th July has been re-scheduled for another date due to the Pariah Feast Day Activities. Finance Committee would be available during each Mass to assist Parishioners making payment of any sort.PROJECT COMMITTEE: Fabrication and installation works on the rafters have been completed. Installation work on the purlins is ongoing. It is anticipated that very soon, all works relating to the fabrication and installation of the steel roofing would have been completed.
LITURGICAL COMMITTEE: Parishioners are encouraged to join the Choir, Board of Lectors, Board of Church Wardens, as they all seek for more members. Those service societies without proper executive, should work towards their election. Investiture of the Altar Servers would be done on the feast day of St. Benedict- 11th July 2022..
PASTORAL AND NEW EVANGELISATION COMMITTEE: The Eucharistic Congress was successfully held in the Parish on 18th June. The event featured; Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Confessions/Holy Rosary, Adoration/Worship Songs, Adoration/Benediction, Spiritual Talk on the Eucharist, Questions and Answers.
THE BASIC CATHOLIC COMMUNITY (BCC): Some of the Centers are doing very well with large turnout of members, while some are experiencing low turnout. Parishioners are encouraged to identify with the nearest BCC to them and become very active members.
JDPC: The committee was involved in the continuous votes’ registration. The committee successfully worked together with the management of Efab Estate in collaboration with INEC to register more people for the purpose of election. Parishioners yet to get their PVC are strongly advised to make use of the remaining window for registrations. Your PVC is your right and power.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE: A seminar tagged CHILD ABUSE: IMPLICATIONS TO THE CHILD AND THE FAMILY was successfully organised for Parishioners. The event was held on the 25th of June, 2022 in the Church Premises. Papers delivered during the Program included: CHILD PROTECTION FROM ABUSE (the role of parents), CHILD RIGHTS ACTS (the key issues), CHILD TRAFFICKING (laws, patterns and signs), PROCEDURES FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD. The Committee will work out a plan to get this vital information to the grassroot, including those who could not make it. The Committee will also look at the possibility of organizing Summer Holiday program for our children.
COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE: In order to make the Committee more functional, a Deputy Chairman and Secretary have been appointed in the persons of Emmanuel Nezianya and Olachukwu Ezeani respectively.
YOUTH AND EMPOWERMENT COMMITTEE: A new Chairman Bro. Matthew Etta has been appointed to head the committee.
PARISH FEAST DAY: Feast day to take place on Monday 11th July, 2022 to commemorate our patron saint. During the 6pm Mass, there will be reception of the sacrament of Holy Communion and Investiture of new members into the Altar Servers. Cultural Celebration of the feast day would be held in grand style on Sunday 17th July, 2022. There will be two Masses (6:30am and 9:30am). Prayer of the faithful will be said in local languages. There would be a grand celebration after the Mass in the Church, featuring: Breaking of Kolanut, Cultural parade by the different communities (6 representatives for each community), Unity dance presentation by CYON, Traditional games, Presentation of dance by the different communities, and presentation of traditional delicacies.
LAITY COUNCIL: The secretary of the Council Sis. Sandra Ijeoma-Orji – was mandated to hold on to the Laity Council, Pending when election would be conducted for new executives. Meanwhile, the Laity Council should should be fully involved in the planning of the burial of the late Chairman of the Parish Laity Council Bro. Christopher Eneh.
SEMINARIAN ON APOSTOLIC WORK: The Parish now have a new Seminarian Bro. Danladi Solomon, who has been posted to our Parish for Apostolic Work.
CONFIRMATION/ BISHOP’S VISIT: The Auxiliary Bishop will be visiting the Parish on October 2nd for the Sacrament of Confirmation. All Parishioners who are yet to be confirmed both adults and children are encouraged to register now and start attending classes which are ongoing both Saturday and Sunday or Tuesday and Sunday.
CWO- The Organization held her election and new executives have been elected. The new President of our Parish CWO is Sis Agbata Gold while the Vice President is Sis Onyinye Asuzu.
CYON- Youth week Activities to commence 24th to 31st July, 2022; while “EDUCHILD” for children would be held on 13th and 20th August, 2022. All youths are urged to support this event and be actively involved.
Members of various groups are encouraged to work closely with their individual Priest Chaplains in all their activities and engagements with regards to both in and outside of the Parish.
